patients. The six episodes of detachment all occurred with the use of a flexible plastic version of the sensor. This problem seems to have been solved with the use of a new cloth sensor. Conversely, the CapnomaskTM was removed on numerous occasions in three patients, which required the intervention of a healthcare provider to reposition it. These periods combined with those of recalibration of the capnograph resulted in the absence of RR measurement for nearly 12% of the duration of the recordings, which could jeopardize the routine use of this technique. These results support the use of RRa when accurate and continuous RR monitoring is desired.

Effect of Cannabinoid Receptor Activation on Spreading Depression

Objective(s) The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of cannabinoid on cortical spreading depression (CSD) in rat brain. Cannabis has been used for centuries for both symptomatic and prophylactic treatment of different types of headaches including migraine. CSD is believed to be a putative neuronal mechanism underlying migraine aura and subsequent pain. Materials and Methods T...

Repeated administration of cannabinoid receptor agonist and antagonist impairs short and long term plasticity of rat’s dentate gyrus in vivo

Introduction: The effects of cannabinoids (CBs) on synaptic plasticity of hippocampal dentate gyrus neurons have been shown in numerous studies. However, the effect of repeated exposure to cannabinoids on hippocampal function is not fully understood. In this study, using field potential recording, we investigated the effect of repeated administration of the nonselective CB receptor agonist WIN5...

Mechanism of cannabinoid effects on long-term potentiation and depression in hippocampal CA1 neurons.

Cannabinoids, the active constituents of marijuana, are known to impair learning and memory. Receptors for cannabinoids are highly expressed in the hippocampus, a brain region that is believed to play an important role in certain forms of learning and memory. To investigate the possible contribution of cannabinoid receptor-mediated deficits in hippocampal function to the learning and memory imp...

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Uc San Diego Title: Cannabinoid-dependent Plasticity in Rodent Somatosensory Cortex Cannabiniod-dependent Plasticity in Rodent Somatosensory Cortex

Abstract: Cortical long-term depression (LTD) and long-term potentiation (LTP) are thought to be important mechanisms for the plasticity of topographic sensory maps, especially in rodent somatosensory (barrel) cortex. At the layer (L) 4 to L2/3 synapse in rat barrel cortex, LTP and LTD can be induced by spike timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) in which the precise, millisecond-scale timing of p...

Differential roles of CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in mast cells.

Cannabinoid modulation of immune responses is a pathological consequence of marijuana abuse and a potential outcome of therapeutic application of the drug. Moreover, endogenous cannabinoids are physiological immune regulators. In the present report, we describe alterations in gene transcription that occur after cannabinoid exposure in a mast cell line, RBL2H3. Cannabinoid exposure causes marked...
